Judging Criteria
Submitted screenplays must be unproduced projects written in English and in Industry Standard Format. (please check our RESOURCES page for links to various information sources on Industry Standard Format guidelines and other screenwriting tips designed to compel your reader to read your work to the page marked THE END).
Our script readers and, ultimately our judges, rate each script based on originality, execution of story and thematic elements, character development, structure, and proper screenplay formatting, including grammar and spelling. Having your script presented in the proper format and with care and attention given to preventing typos and finessing the smaller details will go a long way.
Our readers and judges receive their reading assignments without cover pages to ensure that the author's name and any hints to gender remain anonymous, thus removing any potential bias that may arise based on author familiarity from prior submissions or from multiple submissions from the same author within a given competition year. Only the script title and an accompanying logline (when available) are passed on to the readers/jidges, along with the script, of course.
